Must be Saturday, Bike Ride

Andy’s Donuts in Richmond on 23rd Street.

At the Craneway building on my way to Point Richmond.

Riding on Marin in Albany there were some turkey’s in the bike lane. One turkey attacked the SUV but I think I missed it on the video. Always an adventure on the bike.

The weather was so nice I decided to skip the stop at Barnes and Noble. I don’t want to be inside when the weather is so nice. So it was off to Emeryville.

Skipped the Barnes and Noble that is there and sat on a bench and enjoyed a snack and some water. Locked the bike up and walked around. A lot of stores but nothing interested me.

When I arrived at Point Richmond I stopped at Great American Hamburger and had a bacon cheeseburger. What a great spot. The burgers are great. Beats any chain burger.

The weather was so nice I decided to ride around Point Pinole. I say a bench under a tree and decided it was a great spot to do some reading and enjoy the view.

Then it was time for the pedal home and another enjoyable day on the bike.

Rain Gods Played Nice

580 going across the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge had a major back-up. Why I like riding my bike, no traffic problems. If I do drive on the weekend I go early.

Decided to check out 4th Street in Berkeley. Not my kind of place but it does get crowded.

While riding around 4th Street in Berkeley. This is the industrial section.

Rain was forecast in the morning but it never showed up. The rain gods were playing nice so I went on my bike ride.

Thoughts

While riding in Crockett I had my Pentax QS-1 camera and took a couple of black and white pictures.

These were taken with the fisheye lens.

The rain showed up and decided to ride the bike. Should have drove. Half way into my ride I was regretting the decision. I’m not a fan of riding in the rain but I’m trying to get use to it. If I want to go bicycle touring I got to get use to the rain. I think I’m losing the battle.

Some pictures I like while wandering

While walking in San Francisco along the embarcadero I saw this and thought it looked cool, Came out pretty good with a fisheye lens.

I’ve always like the TransAmerica Building.

Having a break under a tree. Under a tree is always the best resting spot.

Gulls in flight at San Pablo Bay.

Caught this gull in flight.

Hopefully the rain is gone on Saturday and I can hop on the bike. I think I will take my Olympus OM10 film camera and take some pictures. I like this camera. It is pretty compact and not too heavy.

I will probably take my Pentax QS-1 digital camera with me. Always nice to have the digital camera with me.

If it is pouring down rain I might just hop on BART and go to Oakland and take some pictures of some of the old buildings. Oakland does have some nice old buildings.

Oakland actually has a nice downtown but it needs more businesses. I would like to see a booming downtown in Oakland.

So I guess my Saturday is planned.

Bike Ride Through Crockett

Morning ride through Crockett. Always take a different route and see the sights.

The last day before the rain hits. Rumor is it is going to be a big one and fears of flooding. As usual I’m not buying it. I will wait and see what happens.

If worse comes to worse I can always hop in the car or better yet call in sick. See how I feel in the morning.

Train

Commute home I took the bike/walk path in Hercules. The train was stopped to let an Amtrak train go by. I caught the train starting up and ready to go.

I thought the rain was over. I guess the bike gods have different plans. The rain is coming and it is going to be heavy. But can I really trust the weather people. With all their computers they say one thing and another thing happens. So I will do as I usually do, stick my head out the door and see what the weather is like.

I should have one more nice day before the rain hits. I like stopping at the bay before I pedal home. Nothing better than listening to waves and birds and relaxing.

On rainy days I stop and get hot chocolate. Sometimes I just got to get out of the rain.

Or I just say the hell with it and hop in the car. Sometimes I’m not in the mood to deal with the wet. Sometimes I’m just too tired and don’t feel like dealing with the bike. Always nice to have choices.

Out and About on my Bike

All week the weather was warm. Then Saturday comes and it is cloudy and cold. Didn’t dress right. I wore shorts and a thin arm warmers. Who cares it will just warm up and I will be fine. The bike gods had other plans, it never warmed up.

So I decided to go to Al’s Big Burger. Time for a mushroom, bacon, cheeseburger with fries. The crinkly kind. The best way to warm up. Got there early before the rush.

Took my Fed 3 film camera with me and took some pictures. I didn’t use the roll so I still have some pictures to take. Going to be interesting to see how the pictures come out.

The wind was blowing pretty good today. The water on the bay was pretty rough. Couldn’t stop these kayakers going out.

Usually these birds are brown with black. First time I’ve seen a blue one. Glad he stayed in his spot long enough for me to get a picture.

I like riding my bike because It is just the right speed to cover a lot of ground and slow enough to see things and stop to take a picture.

Kayakers getting ready to head out at Ferry Point. I get sometimes you just got to get away from it all. Actually in the middle of the bay is probably a good way to do it.

Sometimes I see graffiti that I like. Saw this on a trailer at the post office distribution center.

Even with the cold it was good day of bike riding. It is always good bike riding.

Ride Across the Carquinez Bridge

Hopped on the bike and decided to ride across the Carqueniz Bridge. The weather was nice so it turned out to be a nice spring day ride.

When I got across the bridge there is a nice resting place and great view of San Pablo Bay. The Vallejo ferry was returning from San Francisco and tugboats doing their work. Always a nice spot to have my snack.

On my way home I stopped at the Hercules Library to do some reading and cool off. It  was getting a little warm. Not too many people inside so it was quiet and I finished the book I was reading, Audition by Rhu Murakami. Pretty good.

I like weekday rides. Not crowded on the roads or when I go places.

Bike Ride Through Downtown Pinole

On my way home and my bike commute home takes me through downtown Pinole. Not very big. Blink and you might miss it.

At least the weather is warming up now. Hopefully the rain is finished and I can ride dry. But now the hot weather. At least in July the fog shows up with the wind but at least it is cool and makes for great riding.

Hope It Don’t Rain

Riding 23rd Street in Richmond.

Taking off on my bike and it looks like a threat of rain. But this time I’m prepared, I remembered my rain pants. This time if it pours down rain I can slip on my rain pants and stay dry. Bike gods throw your best shot.

Stopped at Barnes and Noble. I got a white mocha and grilled cheese sandwich and it was pretty good. I was impressed. Got some reading in and finished the book I was reading, The New Koreans: The Story of a Nation by Michael Breen.

Stopped by the Albany Library to read some magazines. Got a comfortable chair. Get to the Albany Library in the morning and I can enjoy the quiet. Albany Library can get noisy in the afternoons.

I like my quiet weekends. I spend enough time surrounded by noisy people when I’m at work.

The view from Point Isabel on the bike/walk path. Low tide today. Not too many people on the bike/walk path. The threat of rain will do that.

Break time. The Doten Family Marsh is my last break spot before I pedal home. I had a bag of Kettle potato chips and decided to enjoy my snack. The weather was cool and breezy but still enjoyable to have a break. Always good to be outside.

The bike gods were being nice. The threat of rain did not happen. But it started clouded up when I reached home so the rain still may come. Let the rain come now that I am home.
