Bicycle Ride Across Golden Gate Bridge

It has been on my mind for awhile, so I decided to ride across the Golden Gate Bridge going through Sausalito.

I picked a bad day to do this ride. It is foggy and windy. This is typical July weather for the San Francisco Bay Area.

First I have to ride across the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge. There are a lot of road cyclist group rides going over the bridge. I guess this is road cyclist group ride day.

I ride through downtown Sausalito and this is where the fun begins. This means some climbing. I’m not the best on hills, but with all the hills I have been riding lately my legs feel pretty good. May not be fast, but I keep moving.

The start of my ride across the Golden Gate Bridge. Let the fun begin.
On the Golden Gate Bridge.

Decided to ride to Embarcadero BART station. At least riding this way it is mostly downhill. If I was going the other way the climbs would be rough. Some people are walking their bicycles up the climbs.

Alcatraz

When I get to the platform at the Embarcadero BART station the Antioch train was pulling in. So I hopped on it.

I was thinking about getting off at 12th Street BART and then hit Telegraph and ride to Berkeley. Decided against it. MacArthur BART would be easier to Teleghraph.

Well that didn’t work out. Off to Orinda BART station. I rather ride from Orinda because there is better scenery.

Not a bad day on the bicycle.

Bicycle Ride to Muir Woods

Woke up this morning I had a bicycle ride to Muir Woods on my mind. I may regret this ride, but I’m going to do it any way.

One thing about the climbs there is a nice view.
The sign for Muir Woods and I find out it is a downhill ride to Muir Woods.

I love the coast down to Muir Woods, but not too happy thinking about the pedal up on the way back. It is going to be brutal.

Take a nice break before the pedal up. One thing I like about Redwood trees is it is really cool under them. Nature’s air conditioner.

Time for the pedal up. At least there is a small parking cutout so I will take a little break. I’m not a fan of climbing. I am slow but I’m steady.

The short break halfway up from Muir Woods.

The ride up this hill is brutal. My legs are really feeling it. I am not a hill climber, but I will slowly make it up the hill. I knew after this I know it is a great coast into Mill Valley.

I am loving the coast down. I don’t have to worry about cars passing me because I’m able to keep up with the cars. So cool to ride behind a car. Feels like I have a motor. The pain of a climb is worth the coast down.

I have been treating my bicycle rides on Saturday to play tourist. Spent six hours in the saddle.

Wandering by Bicycle

I have been hopping on the bicycle and doing tours of libraries around me. Mill Valley, Lafayette and San Pablo libraries have been my favorites. Mill Valley and Lafayette are nice with the dark woods. San Pablo library has a cool industrial look.

Albany library use to be one of my favorites before the lockdown. Now it is a depressing place. Not too much seating and less computers. It basically says, “Get what you need and leave.” Feels like a ghost town.

July arrived and it brings clouds, wind and cold. Not one of my favorite months to ride in. It is basically the wind. Seems to always be a head wind. The side winds can be brutal too.

My ride through downtown Larkspur and San Anselmo to the library.

Gas prices in California are approaching $7. Guess this will start another bicycle buying spree. The people who gave up their bicycles after the lockdown ended might go with electric bicycles. Easier pedaling and get to where they are going faster. Still I don’t want an electric bicycle. The battery might die before my ride ends and I don’t want to remember to recharge it. Have enough problems keeping up with the phone.

Korean Food Ride

Think I will ride to San Anselmo and get some Korean food.

A statue of Yoda in San Anslemo.
A statue of Indiana Jones.
This has become my favorite break spot. A good reason to ride to San Anselmo.
Heading to the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge along the freeway on my way home.

I really miss the Starbucks in Point Richmond. It was a great break spot. Could get something to eat, a white mocha and a bathroom break.

Seems like the Starbucks I enjoyed stopping at has closed. Probably why I haven’t been to a Starbucks in over a year. Keeps more money in my pocket.

Hello May

This is not how I want to start May. I woke up with a headache. I doesn’t seem like it is going away anytime soon.

Guess I will hop on the bicycle and head out to Barnes and Noble for a white mocha and get some reading in. Sunday usually is a light day on the bicycle.

Not too many people in the cafe so I won’t have to put headphones on to block any noise I don’t want to hear.

Get the feeling pelicans are jerks. Coming in for a landing.
Not a bad spot for a break. A junk food paradise.

Sunday is a mellow ride. But the weekend goes to fast.

Didn’t Go as Planned

The plan was to ride to REI and Barnes and Noble in Corta Madera. That never happened.

The weather was nice except for the wind that decided to visit and go crazy. The wind just can’t behave.

I hit the rest area in Larkspur and decide to take a break. Had some walnuts and read my book. Should have never pulled out the book. Like I’m really going to stick to my schedule now.

I am going to stick to one stop that I had planned for my bicycle ride. Going to the Larkspur Library. Never been there and I want to have a look around. I like libraries and can resist a break and a look inside.

What a surprise. Got there a little early and the library isn’t open. It opens at 1200. So I will take a walk around downtown Larkspur. Not that it is a big downtown.

Some pictures of my walk around downtown Larkspur.

I like the Larkspur Library. It is a nice place to take a break and get some reading in. I like libraries and I will always stop at one to have a look around. Some are set up better than others.

For my final pedal home I decide to take Rumrill Blvd. Lucky for me car traffic was light because there are not a lot of bicycle lanes. It beats hitting 23rd Street or San Pablo Ave. The ride down Rumrill Blvd saves me some time.

Even when a bicycle ride does not go as planned it is still nice to be on the bicycle. It is a nice way to get around and spend the day wandering.

Orinda Moraga Lafayette

No rain or clouds so I’m heading off to San Pablo Dam Road. Really want to ride to Moraga but plans don’t always go as planned in my head.

I hit Glorietta Blvd and this should take me to Rheem Blvd. But that is not how it worked out. I didn’t pay attention to the sign to Moraga and ended up going to Lafayette.

Since I’m in Lafayette might as well stop at Taco Bell for lunch.

Thinking about hopping on BART to Orinda BART station because I know the climbs are going to be rough. When I seen the street sign that read Moraga Road so I had to take it.

I ended up on Rheem Blvd any way. So mission accomplished.

So the climb on Rheem heading to Glorietta Blvd is a rough one. I knew I would hit a climb on the way back. But the coast to Glorietta Blvd is worth it.

I decide to stop at the Orinda Library for a break. I want to get some rest and reading in before the final pedal home. So glad to have the libraries open again. Life is good.

It was a nice bicycle ride. The only way to spend the day.

Downtown Larkspur or Bust

I guess I will take a ride to Larkspur. I found an easier route. There is a trail that will take me there and it is near the shopping center I like to go to in Corte Madera.

This trail is way easier. It is faster too. The last route I took I had to go through neighborhoods to find the trail. Yeah I took a long way.

Found the Larkspur Library. Always look for a library when I’m on a bicycle ride.
St. Patrick Church in Larkspur.
One thing I notice is that there are bicycle shops all over Marin County. It is a great place to go bicycle riding.

The bicycle lane on the Richmond San Rafael Bridge is the best thing that has happened. It is so great to go bicycle riding in Marin County.

Ride my Errands

Today was a day to hop on my bicycle to ride my errands. I had to get some shopping done.

Stopped by Williams Natural Foods. Needed to get some Dr. Bronner’s pure-castille soap. I really like this soap. So many uses. Best of all the ingredients are natural.

Saw the Gipon’s Golden blackberry honey. Of course I had to get a jar. I like different flavor honey and best of all it is raw and unfiltered.

I remembered to bring my rewards card. I always keep forgetting it.

So off to Barnes and Noble. Going to have some green tea and get some reading in.

I like that the cafe area is empty.

I really don’t need books. But I saw one that got my attention. Kin Folk Travel: Slower Ways to See the World by John Burns. Seems to be my style. I ride slow and I see more. Going on foot is another way I like to see things.

Contra Costa College is becoming a good break spot. It is quiet and I get some reading done before the final pedal home.

Was a nice day on the bicycle.
