Riding

I wonder how much longer I will be able to ride my bike during lunch time before management puts a stop to it. Since I get paid for lunch I am technically on official company time and they can do want they want. But until then I will ride.

I always enjoy a mellow ride on my days off. I struggle up a hill and just do a nice coast down. I just let the racer’s pass me by.

Riding and Thinking

Got to love the micro climates in the San Francisco Bay Area. I start my bike ride and it is cold and windy. Six miles later on Alhambra Road the wind has stopped and the sun is beating down on me. Then there are the hills I have to climb. Just can’t escape them. Sometimes Kansas might not be so bad. It is flat. But the heat and humidity would probably kill me.

So glad I have got my debt eliminated. Makes life so much easier. Now salary seems to be more and I can save more money.

The thing I like best about bike riding is taking a mellow ride and enjoying the sights. Then finding a nice place to eat and relax.

I always chuckle when I see a car go by with all the windows rolled down to get air. I get a great breeze on my bike.

Today a motorcyclist was killed on Bear Creek Road when he lost control. Surprised this does not happen more ofter. I’m pedaling along on Bear Creek Road and motorcycles go by me going around 90 mph or faster.

Riding the Streets

Sometimes I want to carry a paint ball gun and shoot it at cars that try to push me to the side of the road. I really hate it when no other cars are near and drivers have to see how close they can get to me. Then I could shoot red paint at the cars to represent my blood.

I know the mirror on my bike might make me look like a dork, but I really like having it there. Nice to be able to see if any cars are approaching. I will usually slow down a bit and let them pass me and then I can take the lane.

I tried the mirror that attaches to eye glasses, you know the ones the cool road cyclist wear, but it was too irritating and distracting. So the mirror on my bike stays.

It is nice to have the rain, but I am ready for the spring weather to arrive. I’m planning on having a great spring and summer time of bike riding.

The Ride

Riding Apple Jack
Nothing is better than an after work ride on the Brompton to Keller’s Beach. Had a nice nap too. Listening to the waves will do that to me.

Got my Brompton C-Bag. It is kind of big, but that is okay. I can fit some snacks in the bag and never know when I might want to do some shopping.

An must have for my bike ride is a book. Never know when the perfect spot might come up to do some reading.

Riding the Brompton

This winter has been a bust. The positive is I got some great bike riding in, but I think this is going to be a hot summer. Not a fan riding in the heat so it will be early morning rides.

I like going to Sausilito, but driving through town I am always tense. I’m always glad to get out of there. but bike riding through town is the best.

I just brought the Brompton in for the first 100 mile check up. Didn’t take long to reach 100 miles. The Brompton handles pretty good. It is a good bike for mellow rides and it is great having it in the trunk of the car. It is nice to go on rides after work. Park at the BART station and go for a ride.

Can’t wait to take the Brompton to San Francisco and ride across the Golden Gate Bridge into Marin County. Going to be great to come back to San Francisco on the Ferry and hop on BART and not have to worry about commute times or crowded trains. Fold it up and take it on board.

Whatever

have come to the conclusion that I cannot go on a bike ride with anyone. Seems like I ride too slow for some and too fast for others. I don’t usually plan my routes. I don’t usually know where I’m going until I hop on my bike and see how I feel. I like to ride a casual pace and to stop and take a picture if I see a good shot. I like to stop and rest at a place that I think is a great rest spot, who knows how long I might stay. Sometimes a bike ride turns into a short ride. My time, my way. Yeah I won’t find anyone to ride with.

I like it better when it rains when I’m at work. Rain on my days off just throws things off. I really don’t enjoy bike riding in the rain, though I might do it. Most of the times it turns into a gym day and catching up on some reading. Really hate being trapped inside. Never understood how someone could sit inside the house all day.

Sometimes I think it would be nice to have a bike for my moods. But that is not going to happen with limited space. If I had the money I could rent a storage shed and keep my bikes in there, but I don’t like the idea of going to the shed to exchange bikes. So my Cannondale Quick has knobbie tires that can handle road and dirt. I also have my Brompton for rides that involves BART and riding in San Francisco.

Escapism

People have their way to escape from the routine of life. Life at times can be a pain in the ass. We go through and hope we over come and enjoy the fun that life has to offer.

Some people escape through alcohol or drugs and sometimes it just makes things worse.

Some people escape through sports. They live through the teams they follow. Life not going so well, but at least their team is winning. Hopefully the team doesn’t suck, because nothing is worse than watching a favorite team losing while one’s life is the pits.

Some people use religion to escape. Yeah life sucks, but in the end everything will be okay.

I escape through books or bike riding. I like when I ride on an empty quiet road. Love listening to the birds, cows and frogs. The thoughts that run through my head can be entertaining. Sometimes I wonder where they come from. I’m not purposefully thinking the the thoughts. Sometimes I think nothing. Weird having that short period where nothing is going through my mind. Just quiet. Until I realize I’m not thinking anything and start thinking. Bike riding is the best meditation I can think of.

I got off the sports bandwagon and now I cheer myself on when I’m climbing a hill I have no business being on. But I slowly pedal on and before I realize it I’m at the top. No I don’t start my race down hill. I stop, have a sip of water, and enjoy the view. I earned it, why not savor it? Then I race down hill.

I always carry a book or my kindle. Never know when I find a nice quiet spot that whispers, “Come take a break here.” Nothing like resting and enjoying a book.

My favorite place to stop is Peet’s for my jasmine green tea. I like to relax and enjoy the classical music. That is what I like about Peet’s they play classical music. The only thing that Peet’s lacks is something good to eat. Really don’t feel like eating cookies. Best time to hit Peet’s is in the morning when they have the breakfast stuff out.

Brompton Fun

Not going to break any speed records on the Brompton. But the Brompton getting on the bike at the spur of the moment and enjoying the sights. It is so nice to have it in the car and ready to go at anytime.

I guess I attract the smart asses. A guy on his road bike built for speed told me to get rid of the clownut bike and get a real bike. I was able to yell back that, “I have a real bike.” But the three bicyclist made my day when they told me nice bike.

Once I got use to the sixteen inch wheels I forgot about being on a folding bike. The ride is great and fun. Best thing is folding it up and taking it with me into an establishment. Yep no bike lock. All I can say is enjoy the ride.

Brompton has Arrived.

The Brompton has arrived. I was informed that I should give it a name. Never been one for naming bicycles. Since it is apple green I will call it Apple Jack.

Apple Jack - my Brompton

Apple Jack – my Brompton

It does ride nice, but I did have to get use the the sixteen inch wheels and not having my feet clipped in. It is nice to be able to fold the bike and take it on a crowded train and during commute hours. The advantage of a folding bike.

I decided to put a knobbie type tire on my Cannondale Quick. Riding on the road isn’t as smooth as it was with the skinny tires, but I still prefer a knobbie type tire. I find myself riding a trail or two on my rides and the skinny tire just doesn’t cut it.

Of course it is a slower ride, but I don’t care about riding fast anymore. It is about seeing the sights and taking a rest under one of my favorite trees, read a book or take a nap. Yeah I will never be confused with the road racers that always pass me up. I have accepted that when one sees me the pace is picked up to catch and pass me. I’m good for one’s ego.
