I really enjoy my bike ride along the San Pablo Bay in Richmond CA. Pedaling along nice and slow enjoying the sights and sounds. The path is a walk/bike path so there are people walking and jogging. I really don’t like when the Spandex riders come speeding through. They think it is their personal speedway. No bell on their bikes, after all it will cause wind resistance and slow them down, and can’t bother to call out. Startling people.

Want to ride like a bat out of hell go ride in the streets. They can ride as fast as they want. Save the speed for riding along some quiet road with little traffic.

My Buddy

cookieI have had cookie for little over a year. When I got her all she did was sit in her cage and not make a sound. The people who had her kept her in her cage and she seemed content.

Now when she wakes up she tweets to let everyone know she is up. Take the cover off her room and she whistles while she is brought to her spot to look out the window.

Then the tweeting sound increases until she gets her toast and lettuce. After munching a bit she chirps to go outside and sit on the deck and listen to her radio. She also must enjoy having the breeze going through her feathers.

She also likes her morning and afternoon time out of her room. Then there are the neck and head rubs. When she has had enough of being touched she will take a lit nip at the finger. When she has had enough time out of her room she will just go into her room.

She has a great inner clock. At 4pm she squawks to watch tv. Then at 7pm she begins to whistle that it is time for her to go to bed.

She is my buddy.

Aloha Festival

P1000010(1)P1000047(1)Had a nice day at the Aloha Festival.

P1000019P1000044(1)This year I didn’t put a goal of how many miles I would ride on my bike. Now I can just ride and not worry about how many miles I put in or if I’m behind and need to make up miles.

Public Transportation

One thing the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) has taught me is not to rely on it for commuting especially during contract talks. BART went on strike for four days and then went back to work. Management and unions are supposed to come up with a contract within 30 days. San Francisco Bay area has a week left and possibility of a strike ag

There may be a chance that commuters may have to come up with a way to get to work besides BART. People who have given up their cars are looking at standing in long lines for a bus or car pools. People who have cars will drive which means more cars on the road and longer commutes.

I’m glad I don’t need to rely on BART or the bus system. Don’t like to have my routine disrupted. The best thing for people to do is not rely on public transportation. Basically work where you live. Walk, bike, or short drive. I know sometimes easier said than done.

San Francisco is a rough place to work. Parking is expensive and living on the San Francisco side is expensive. Maybe time to rethink working in San Francisco.

What a Waste of Money

P1030456Hercules, CA spent $35 million on this and it isn’t even finished. Now it just sits. No politician was sent to jail for wasting taxpayer dollars. But the company that was supposed to build it made out because of political connections. Then Hercules had to blackmail residents to pass a tax initiative to keep the police department.

Politicians and government workers who are caught in unethical behavior and costing taxpayer’s money should be sent to prison.

When a corporation does anything that the public thinks is unethical the public wants blood. The same needs to happen to politicians.

The Shame

Today Pig Farm Hill kicked my butt. Could only make it half way up. Felt like I was about to throw up and my heart was beating like crazy. My legs were screaming, “Please make it stop!”

I turned around and called it a day. If the first half was doing that to me the second half would have killed me. The grade gets steeper towards the end. The shame of it all.

Something to think about:

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been 200 years. Great nations rise and fall. The people go from bondage to spiritual truth, to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency, from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependence, from dependence back again to bondage”.

Riding

One thing I hate when riding my bike on city streets is approaching a freeway on ramp where two lanes are used for approach. Can get a little scarey at times. I try to avoid routes with these freeway on ramps as much as possible.

Life is Short Enjoy

bikeskelThis is my tattoo. People see a skeleton on a bike with a mohawk, but it does have a meaning. The skeleton reminds me to enjoy life because it is short and I will die. The bike reminds me to do what I love and enjoy life. The mohawk means that I don’t give a shit. Life is short no matter how long you live.
