Pentax SF1N Camera

Got a Pentax SF1N film camera. Now to go and take some pictures and see how it works.

So far shooting film has been fun.

Still won’t give up my digital camera though. It is fun to use too.

Personally I like how film comes out. Not as clean. Digital pictures tend to be cleaner. Have to go to Photoshop to get the grainy feel.

Still nice to have options.

PT. Molate

PT. Molate isn’t quite the beach it was in the 1970’s when I was a kid. Can’t even swim there now. The parking lot is smaller too. Today was a nice day and no one was there.

The thing I don’t like is that there could be a lot of hiking but most of the surrounding areas is off limits,

There was talk about a trail that would connect PT. Molate with Point Pinole but I don’t see it happening anytime soon.

Still a nice place to get away from it all.

To The Bay

Hopped on the bike and headed to the bay. Seems to be my favorite ride. Sucks that my favorite ride has a sink hole and can’t get through. Easy to head to Martinez, Orinda and Briones.

Saw this lizard just resting in the shade. Didn’t even move while I set the camera on the ground to snap the picture.

Was high tide but the water was a nice blue.

Have to really keep my eyes on the ground. The grass and weeds are high and covering the trail at Bayfront park. Never know when a snake might be hanging out. Like to give them plenty of space. Not a snake person.

Stopped by Starbucks. Really like the midnight mint mocha. I know it is probably a calorie bomb but it was hot out and I had a nice bike ride. Back to green tea for the next couple of months.

Plans

Woke up this morning and thought I would go on a long quiet bike ride. Then I stopped at Peet’s for a green tea and pulled out my Men Without Women by Haruki Murakami. Dragged into Murakami’s world and no way out there went the long bike ride.

Not the first time my plans have changed so it is no surprise. In reality I hate making plans. Always mean I’m doing something I thought I wanted to do but now I don’t really want to do it.

Probably why I’m not a fan of having a job. I got to be somewhere I don’t want to be. But I have to pay the bills as they say.

At least I rode my bike to Peet’s.

Back to Film

Found a Pentax Asahi K1000 at Goodwill. So I bought it and decided to shoot some film. It is a learn as I go process.

Put a battery in so I could use the light meter. The bad news is the light meter does not work. But I did find out I can do the exposure by Sunny 16. Let the fun begin.

I haven’t given up on digital. I like I can shoot a bunch of pictures and delete what I don’t like. Film makes me more selective.

For my first adventure in film I am using black and white.

Warm Weather Has Arrived

Warm weather has arrived and now I can enjoy my bike rides. Nothing like a break under a tree.

Always nice to have a library. Nice place to take a break and use the bathroom. Always good to know where the bathrooms are.

I don’t mind having Thursday and Friday off. The only bad thing is on Friday’s the libraries are closed. Not too big of a deal on warm days but during the winter it kind of sucks. Can’t have everything.

Always fun to watch the ducks. This duck was just roaming around without a care in the world.

Always good to carry a camera. Never know what I’m going to see on my bike rides. Most of the time nothing too interesting. But sometimes I see something that interest me.

Meditation at the Bay

Rode out to the bay and done some meditating. It was quiet and no people around. No people at the bay is rare. There is usually someone walking around. So took advantage of no people. Also got some reading in.

It is always nice to get away from a noisy world and enjoy the sounds of nature. The sea gulls were pretty active. I guess it was play time at the bay for them since no people were around and no dogs.

Killing Time

When I was a child I use to draw all the time. I wasn’t great but good enough to kill time with. So I have decided I am going to start drawing again. Won’t impress anyone but I’m not trying to impress anyone.

I is raining again on my day off. So I’m waiting for it to stop. So years of drought and in one winter the rain decides to make up for it in one season. I guess I should enjoy the drought years. Can get more dry bike rides in.

I need to go through my music collection and put the music I like on my AK Jr MP3 player. One thing i like about the AK Jr is I can use a SD card. Really not a bad way to store music. Plop the SD card in and the music is ready to go.

Lately I have been listening to a lot of jazz. Mostly instrumental. I’m in a phase I don’t want to listen to someone sing. I just want to hear instruments. I still like CD’s so I have been going to Amoeba and Rasputin’s to get them used. Not a fan of downloading. I like having a physical copy.

I have albums but I haven’t got on the Album craze.  But when I do go to Amoeba and Rasputin’s and look through albums I have noticed the more popular albums are not there as used. They are the new pressed albums and some of the prices are crazy. I seen some going for over $30. Sorry I’m not paying that much for an album. I go to the cd’s and find it for under $10.

Time to get off the computer and throw on some headphones and listen to some relaxing jazz music.

The Future

When I want to know what the future looks like I just read Sci-Fi. The nerds and geeks who are driving the future with technology are big Sci-Fi fans. They want robots doing the work and leaves more time to play on their computers. Hell who wants a real woman when a robot woman will work. Have the gorgeous woman they always wanted and she never ages. No complaining either.

Japan leads in robotics because of their large older population. Let the robots take care of the old people. To hell with massive procreation, we have the robots to do the work. China isn’t that far behind with robot technology.

America lags with implementing the technology because Americans are usually slow to change. When some companies want to use more technology unions fight it. Unions don’t want to lose membership money. Unions don’t like efficient work places because that means less workers.

America is good at creating the technology but slow to implement. While Europe and Asia is moving forward, America remains in the twentieth century. Americans will have to be dragged into it kicking and screaming.

The nerds and geeks will do it because they know what kind of world they want. Nothing better than a driverless car. Gearheads who love driving are going to be screwed. At some point you won’t be able to drive their car. The automobile are already taking the stick shift from them.

Amazon already has a grocery store in Seattle where people get their stuff and walk out. People grab their stuff and walk out. Then they are billed through the Amazon app and a receipt is issued. Actually I like this. I don’t have to stand in line and have to deal with a cashier.

But it won’t be this great utopia either. Humans have a way to mess things up. If humans are not working then they are probably causing trouble. Even if the governments give people a monthly allowance people will cry it isn’t enough.

The question is with so many people not working and too much time on their hands causing trouble when does government open prison colonies? People locked up all day. When does the death camps open up?

With robots keeping tabs on everything crime could be kept down to a minimum. No one driving and no more speedy get a ways. Probably be able to shut down a car. No more running from the cops. Can’t out run a robot that doesn’t get tired. Hell drones will probably be able to follow you.

Then their is the fear that robots will figure out humans are useless and decide to exterminate humans.

On a philosophy note one has to question are humans old robot technology? Is death not really death but a robotic shut down? Have humans created an afterlife to seem like living beings? The future robot won’t have to procreate in such an old way because the new and improved robot will live forever unless destroyed.

Enjoy the future.
