Ride Slowly Snack Often

Got the Ride Slowly Snack Often sticker when I renewed my membership with Bike East Bay. My riding style.

It is still windy and it is August. Hoping the wind comes to an end soon.

The bike/walk trails are coming along. Soon I will be off the part of San Pablo AVE that has the climb with no shoulder by the Pinole Post Office. The three foot rule goes out the window.

I like that Point Pinole has made a path that can connect to Richmond Parkway and ride out to Point Richmond. Not a bad ride. When the wind dies down and it is a little warmer I will have to make the ride. I can ride along the water and go to El Cerrito and Albany and stay out of traffic.

Routes are coming along but I think the East Coast is way ahead of California.

Saturday Bike Ride

New cycling cap from Bicycle Coffee. I like it. Made of thick material.

Rode to Peet’s and was surprised that it wasn’t busy and plenty of seating inside and outside. Guess foot traffic has slowed down since the new Starbucks and Sprout’s has opened. Less foot traffic. Almost felt like a weekday.

The repair of the sinkhole on Alhambra Road is coming along pretty good. Will be glad when it is fix and I get my route to Bear Creek Road.

At leas I got my ride in before it got too hot.

Bay Bridge Bike Ride

Now that five eights is here and not going away it is back to Saturday bike rides. I hate riding on Saturdays because it is too crowded.

So since it was hot I decided to bike ride the Bay Bridge.

At the end of my bike ride I stopped at Casper’s for a hotdog.

Sailboat Flipped

At Ferry Point there was a sailboat training class. Wind was whipping and can change directions without warning. One reason I never carry an umbrella in the rain. One minute it is blowing towards you and with out warning it changes and comes behind you and the umbrella is finished. Poor guy flipped his sailboat.

Good lesson to learn for him and the others. At least he is out there trying something new. But for me that would be a nightmare.

Wandering

Got the day off today. Since I start five eights on 3 July 17 I decided to give myself a three day weekend. Still irritates me that a few people were allowed to cause the department to lose four tens, but what can you do with puppets of management.

The good thing about five eights is I get off at noon. Looks like I will get some good bike riding in after work.

So I decided to go and wander around San Francisco. I still think that San Francisco is one of the best walking cities. There is a lot to see and easy to walk.

I like that I can stop, sit and enjoy a snack and no one looks at me like I’m crazy. Pick the right spot and I can have a nice view while I rest.

This being summer San Francisco is covered in fog. So I don’t too hot while walking.  The fog is what makes San Francisco a great walking city. I don’t want to sweat all day while walking.

With all the wandering I was able to get 25528 steps in. Not a bad day of seeing the city and getting in some exercise.

Riding in the Heat

The temperatures are in the nineties and hundreds and not enjoying the bike riding. I’m not a big fan of riding in the heat. I always feel dehydrated even though I’m not. Good thing the hot weather doesn’t last long. The fog will roll in and cool everything down. Got to love the fog.

Work has begun on Alhambra Road. Don’t know how long it will take but can’t wait until it is done. I will have my favorite route back. So much easier to get to Briones. I enjoy the ride to Martinez too.

Hot days I try to keep my route along the water. It is usually cooler. The rides tend to be longer too. Point Pinole is a nice place to ride too. Near the water and plenty of trees for shade.

The important thing is to at least get a ride in.

Shooting Film

I am enjoying shooting film. I do miss just dropping off the film and getting pictures back in an hour. So I just send it off to get developed.

I like the way film looks. Digital pictures tend to be too clean. I like how film can have that rough look. Sometimes if I don’t get the exposure right or tried something different I like how the picture looks. I may be the only one though.

Digital lets me snap a lot of pictures then I can go and delete the ones I don’t like. With film I have to think a little more and not just snap pictures. Once the roll is done that is it. Can go and delete the ones I don’t want. Living on the edge with film.

I thought about trying to develop film myself. But I really don’t want to take the time to do it right now. That could change in the future. With me it is all about what mood I’m in. The thought of me ruining rolls of film until I got right kind of irritates me.

I really would just like to take a class and do it that way. I’m more of a classroom learning person. I’m not much of a youtube video watching person. I have done it but not my thing.

With technology the way it is going there might be an easier way to develop film.

Coasting Downhill

I’m not a fan of riding up hills. Personally I when I’m riding up a hill I can hear the road and animals laughing at me. I swear I see vultures circling because they think their next meal is close.

On a good day I can make it up a hill without stopping. On a bad day I’m making some stops before I hit the top. I’m telling you Kansas always looks good to live in. It is flat.

So when I hit the top of the hill and I’m heading down I am coasting. Not like the road cyclist who are pedaling on their way down. I suffered enough pedaling up the hill and I’m enjoying my ride down. Especially if another climb is after the down hill coast.

Sometimes I will rest on top of a hill if there is a good view and enjoy it. I suffered up the hill and I’m going to enjoy the view.
