San Pablo/Richmond Bicycle Ride

Nice path to Davis Park all the way to Rumrill Blvd. This is great because I can ride and keep off the street. Nice to ride and not have to worry about cars.

The new designed back entrance to the Richmond BART station.

Stopped here to get some snacks. Always nice to be able to stop for a snack break.

Point Richmond is always a fun place to ride to. I like it because the ride is flat. But I have to remember to not always ride flats. Then when I do have to ride hills I will really suffer. Not that I’m the greatest hill rider.

Stopped at Starbucks. They have a great chicken wrap. Got some reading in and a cup of coffee before the ride home.

I love the new trail in Point Pinole that allows me to ride to Richmond Parkway and connect to the bike path to Point Richmond. Always sucked that a portion of Richmond Parkway would not allow bicycles and ruined a great way to get to Point Richmond. Now everything is good.

The bike infrastructure is slowly coming along which is great. It is great when people have the option to hop on their bike and go to other cities or to meet up with friends and not have to get into their car and then find parking.

At least now people don’t throw things at bicyclist now. This was common when I was bicycle riding in the late eighties and nineties. Now drivers will just honk at you. Unfortunately some bicyclist will get hit. One reason I like bike/walk paths.

It was a chilly day or was it cold? I guess it would depend on the person but to me it was chilly. When I left my house it was forty degrees. Usually when I get riding I will warm up so the temperature doesn’t bother me.

The rain hasn’t made a big appearance so I’m able to get some nice rides in. As I said before I’m not a fan of riding in the rain. I would probably ride in the rain more if it rained a lot but it doesn’t so I just won’t do it. I did enough rain riding in Misawa Japan. It rains a lot there.

Now I can rest because Christmas day I don’t have to work and I can go on a ride before the family get together. Personally I would rather ride all day.

Alhambra Road into Martinez

This is pig farm hill on Alhambra Road. I hate this area. The grade on the climb is horrible. Didn’t help that I had a head wind too. Had to stop a couple of times to rest. Let a group ride ride by me so they couldn’t watch my failure and I didn’t want to be in their way. I haven’t rode this in a couple of years. On a good day I can make it up without stopping. Today was not a good day.

Thought this was cool. A windmill next to an old barn.

A break at John Muir Memorial Park. The good thing about climbing pig farm hill is the rest of the way into Martinez is down hill. Makes the suffering on the climb worth it.

The ride on Franklin Canyon is mellow. Good thing too because my legs were starting to get tired. Part of it was pig farm hill and the other part was I didn’t ear enough at breakfast. But I didn’t think I would ride to Martinez. Just decided to do it while riding.

I don’t really plan a route when I hop on my bike. I just decide where I want to go depending on how I feel.

Was a nice loop and got thirty-one miles in so everything was good.

Bicycling Richmond, CA

Decided to bike ride around Richmond, CA. Nice route to ride because it is flat and I didn’t want to ride any hills today.

The old Mechanics Bank.

Hotel Mac in Point Richmond. Nice place to eat.

Time to take a break.

There are some nice old buildings in Richmond. Actually the downtown isn’t bad but money needs to be invested.

The route I like to ride takes me through Point Pinole. A bike/walk path has been built which will take me to Richmond Parkway and ride into Point Richmond. From Point Richmond I can take a ride to Emeryville along the water. It is a nice bike/walk path. Also can stop in El Cerrito and Albany for snack breaks too. When the time change hits and the weather is warmer will be a good way to spend the day.

Every time I ride this route to Point Richmond I never see any other cyclist. The trail in Point Pinole is new so maybe not too many people know about it or they don’t want to really ride it. I like the route because it keeps me mostly out of traffic and if I can stay out of traffic the better the ride.
